A necropsy was performed and supported the preliminary findings of the track vet, Dr. Hamici, that the death was caused by accidental strangulation. The greyhound was last seen alive in the cage approximately 45 minutes before the greyhound was found deceased at 9:20 p.m. The track vet noted that he had to remove the racing collar in order to remove the greyhound from the cage, and that the "snap bold round-eyed hook" (approx. 3" long, which is used to secure the brass tags [approx. 2'x3"] to the greyhound's collar after weigh-in) had opened and was caught on a horizontal wire of the 3/4" sq. of the cage wire, which most likely resulted in the strangulation of the greyhound. Based on this information, along with the official necropsy results, the death was ruled accidental & the case was closed. |
