how to link two tables

Publication date: August 13, 2018

Hi please let me know how to link 2 tables.

Add option to list

Publication date: August 15, 2018

If I’m not mistaken there seems to be a glitch in the “Add” option functionality of the Relationship look-up.

Each time there is a submission the date of the submission is added to the pop-up the next time it is opened as a checkbox, below the text field that should be there.

Keep the previous selected relationship field

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I’d like to add multiple entries with the same relationship field selection. Example (below) Relationship field selected = Cars

Cars Mercedes
Cars Lexus
Cars Audi

If don’t want to find the relationship field (Cars) again after I’ve submitted the Mercedes entry.

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Publication date: August 15, 2018

It’s me again.

Today I discovered that there is only one relationship between two forms possible within MTH.
Unfortunately this is killing my project – at least MTH currently is not a solution. Which I am a bit sad about ‘cause I liked what I’ve seen so far.

Any plans to change this relationship limitation?

Multiple data from linked table

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I am currently in trial mode testing your solution.

One questiion: when linking 2 tables I’d like to mark multiple opportunities for one kind of data.

For example:

Table 1: Names (Peter, James, Paul)
Table 2: Destinations (US, China, Germany)
Table 3: Travel History:
Name=Peter (from table 1)
has been to the follwowing Destinations = (China & US) from Table 2

I did this by using the advanced field type = “Relationship”, but user can only pick one destination from table 2 and not multiple
How to achieve this?
Thanks a lot,

Send information from one form to different record tables depending on selection

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I have a form for creating student results and when filing out that form I would like the record to be sent to different forms depending on the selection from one of the fields in the original form. For example, we have students in year 10, 11 and 12. We have learning outcomes (student results) for year 10, 11 and 12 but we would like to be able to have each entered result split into different forms. So when filling out the form, If select year 10, the record will then be sent to the year 10 form etc.

'Add' link on relationship fields

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Is there a way to remove/hide/disable the ‘Add’ link underneath a relationship field if you want to prevent users from creating new target records from within the base record? For example, if I wanted to ensure that Players are only created through the Player form and not through the Team record, is that possible?

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I have noticed that the relationship features you MTH are only meant to “populate” fields. There should be a way to do QUERIES in order to process many fields of the row at the same time, like product and price. The “calculation field” that you suggest only concatenate and is not possible to process the numbers.

Also is there a way to customized POST and GET values between reports?

Eg. Patience in hospital has many visits to doctor, the idea is connect “patience table” with “visits table” and “doctors table” using foreign and primary keys.

Thanks for you patience.

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I am using the unpaid version at the moment, is that why I cannot see a “relationships” function? If i am blind, please let me know.

Lookup & Filtering

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Team records can be filtered by a user. For instance students added by each user can only be seen by that user (and the administrator in records). But if records are accessed in a relationship drop-down those records are not and cannot be filtered so that the logged in user can only select from their “added by” students. Is this correct?

Multi-select relationship field

Publication date: August 15, 2018

A great addition — but with one small glitch. The new field doesn’t support rules. I tried a show/hide with no luck.

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Hi Igor,
Again asking for your valuable help.
I have a main Form (Identifica) to which I have created relationships one-to-many to all the rest of the secondary forms in the same project.
Actually in Identifica (Fields) I only can see one of the Relationships that I did (Emergencia). Where are the rest?

Now, our actual idea is simple.
It is intended for emergencies information in a non-profit association (http://centroarrupevalencia.org/).

Two situations:
1 – One patient, from Form Identifica, choses a User and Password and then he can enter and modify records related to him:
a) One record in the main form (Identifica)
b) Several records in each of the rest of the tables, related to the main by same User and Password.
2 – Any visitor can view (not enter neither modify) all records of a user just entering the User (no password) of the patient.

I appreciate very much your always useful and prompt assistance!

Scripting to cascade data from related records

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Is it possible to add scripting to cascade data from a related record to a newly entered record?

For example, can I add a customer preference to my customer table and then have that preference cascade (but be overridable) to my plate orders table?

Thank you!

Relational data

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Just evaluating mytaskhelper and I have a question. In the general information you claim that this is a “MTH is a relational online database.” When I create a form. How can I add a question that may have several answers (unknown number of answers may be 4 however it could be 30)?

So far I can create a table with multiple lines but I need something a little more dynamic!

link between two forms

Publication date: August 15, 2018

Hi I would like to use one form of approx 15 fields.
Through reports I will have them filled in by several users. (commercial people)

I would like to create a second form that is containing approx 25 fields.
15 of these fields would be identical to the ones in the first form.
10 would be extra, reserved to R&D people who can tha add the information in the extra field for that specific record.

How can I create a link to have all the records of the first form in the second form.

If this works. I will be a big fan of your system !

Bug between my records

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I am cleaning the data that I imported and I have discovered that several of the records are connected to each other and when I choose “select theater” for one, it changes the other. This is all in the Production Form. One of the entries for 16th Street Theatre is linked to one of the entries for Cabrini Repertory Theater. Another 16th Street is linked to Cafe de la Gare. There are two Cherry Lane Theatre entries that are linked, one to the Cleveland Public, another to Company One.

Please tell me how I can unlink these.

Setup a relational database

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I’d like to setup a relational database

Input say a badge number and the detail from another table is pulled into the current form – ( typical relational database).

I’m trying to figure it out.

possible relationship?

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I am struggling to figure this out during my trial. I have business clients that make purchases from multiple vendors. At the end of the year I get a spreadsheet from each of the vendors showing of how much each of my clients spent with each vendor. It basically has the client name and their purchase total. So I want to be able to upload the vendor spreadsheet and in turn the client database show the client’s name and how much they purchased from each vendor based on the data that is in each of the vendor reports. So for example if I have ten clients and each purchase from apple, microsoft, and google…the record would show the following columns…client name, their microsoft purchase amount(from the microsoft uploaded spreadsheet), their apple purchase amoutn(from uploaded apple spreadsheet, their microsoft purchases.. etc.

multiple relationships

Publication date: August 15, 2018

I read there can only be one relationship between tables but does that mean can there be more than one many-many relationship for a table.
I want to have a structure that is like “parent-child- grandchild” where the relationship of the child table is many to many in both directions. When i try to do this the forms are not available from the drop box. Also when looking at the page forms for my database there are no relationships showing – the only way to make these appears to be by making a new field?
it looks different on the screencast.

Bad Setting I Assume

See attached video…I thought I hadn’t input the aquatic centre

Formula on form and in field rules

Publication date: August 16, 2018

As mentioned in an earlier email I would love to see Field Rules allow Formula fields to be included, the use of Relational Data allows a lot of information to be fed into a form before data entry takes place, this incoming data could be used in many ways to enhance whether data entry is allowed or not by the data entry form.
In the above form example I have hidden the display of Select Agent field based on whether the field contains data, the inclusion of formula fields for Field Rules would greatly enhance MTH in this regard.

Linked column order

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Basically, the drop down box MTH provides for a relational field sorts the data into its own order depending on the content of the link field.
This disregards the sort order of the originating form.

Geting data of related data

Publication date: August 16, 2018

i have two Form A and B
I had created relation between Form A to B and both have same relation (Has and belong to Many) between Order ID of both Forms (because both the Form have multiple entries of same Order ID with different charges). Now i want to pull data of Form B to FORM A, i had created a new field in Form A and used Formula under which i had selected option for contant values , i had tried all possible combination but i am unable to get it.

Attached picture of my two Xls file by which i had created form A and B.

Visibility of field

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I have a field in one form linked to another. When I add a new record the field appears and the result shows up in the list of records. When I log in as my test agent, the field is not in the form or in the list.

Importing records with a relationship field

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I’m having trouble importing CSV records when one of the field headers is “Select XXXX”. That field imports as empty, even when the data matches a record in the linked table.

How can I import tables with relationships?

All Linked Fields Are Blank

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Not sure what has happened overnight.

All linked tables fields in our forms are not showing any content.

So we have a drop down to select staff name. This is saved in time card. The time card uses a relationship to link in staff name. Staff names were working fine yesterday. This morning they are all blank. As is every other relationship field in every single form.

This is urgent. I have staff starting in 20 minutes

Various Issues All Day - Now cant search

Publication date: August 16, 2018

We have been having numerous issues most of the day. Most are things like not updating, and having to double enter to get records in. Tonight I am trying to do a single criteria search for records I know are there and it is returning no records repeatedly.

Hmmm - Required Entry

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I have on my form a relationship many and belongs to. It is a required entry as if not completed my companion software I further process the data with doesn’t function correctly.

However the blokes filling the form out may skip it as I cannot see how to make it a required form to validate on submission.

Is there a way?

clone DB with relationships

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Relationship’s field do not send data in database from cloned form.
It mean if you will clone some form then in relationship’s column will be null strings only.

Jump to another form

Publication date: August 16, 2018

In menu “relationships” system redirect me on form page when I choose another form with help option “Jump to another form”.
Then I need to return in menu “relationships” again.

Multiple Sources For Relationship

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Working example:

Laundry Powder
Fabric Softener

Pack Sizes:
1 kg
2 kg
5 kg

The user can choose any size pack of Laundry Powder or any size shampoo for example.

In the related form I want to capture the choice something like:

1 kg Laundry Powder
5 kg Shampoo

How do i do this in one field?

Relationship Issues

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I am having a problem linking tables I have imported from Excel. One relationship works but others do not, despite being created the same way. I have four tables. Table A, B, C and D.
Table A has a one to many relationship with B and C.
Table D has a one-to-many relationship with C.
The one is a unique field.

Excel file doesn't contain relationship columns

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I found that when using the Excel export feature in an embedded iframe coded webpage, the created file does not contain the relationship columns.

If you export the same form by logging into MTH account, it will actually export a proper file with all the columns in place.

If you need extra information let me know and I’ll be glad to provide it.

Thanks in advance!

Relationships didn't copied

Publication date: August 16, 2018

When I’m clonning my form relationships didn’t copied to new form. So I have to re-link all tables. It can also cause issues with Formula fields.

Images in Formula Field Relational Database

Publication date: August 16, 2018

A minor glitch that you should be aware of;

1. Where a RELATIONAL database has been created that features IMAGE fields the FORMULA field does not display an image that exists in another form/database.

2. I have tried various routines and the best result I can get is the file name of the related database image field but not the image itself. I created a null field and then added the field for the relationship that points to an image field, this in the normal way that I have tested and works if an image is within the same database. No matter how I tried I can not bring in the image.

3. This means that an image placed in say a database of sales persons for a specific person can not be related to a database of sales by that sales person.

It appears as though the URL for an image field from a related database is not being copied into the string for a formula field. I am able to show the file name in my test example and have exhausted the list of possible other permutations before sending in this bug report. On each pass of my testing I have checked that the truncation value of the formula field has space available to accept the URL.

Relationship (filtered)

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Igor — Is it possible to create filtered relationships for forms? For instance, using your relationship example I created tables for teams and players. Now I would like to create a form relationship that filters selections, where if I choose FC Dynamo from the Team Drop-down I will only have FC Dynamo players on the Player Drop-down. Is that currently possible?

Database Field Name

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Perhaps there can be a difference between the “Common Field Name” (what people see on the form) and the “Database Field Name” (what is actually used on spreadsheet or relationships. For example, the common field name can be = Student Email and the database field name could = StuEmail. By default, it could equal the common field name and if someone want to change the database field name it can be done on the validation page.

Linking Fields and drop down menu from different form

Publication date: August 16, 2018

Hi, I would like to enable a field, to choose options from a field in another form/table. I thought this could be done through relationships, but it seems not.

Eg, The field Car_colour from Car db, would be chosen come from colours table.

All the colours would appear as records in the colours table.

Then in the Car db, when you arrive at the Car_Colour field, a drop down list would appear with records from the colours table.

Please advise

Sortable database relationship column headers

Publication date: August 16, 2018

The relationship column headers are not sortable (a-z, etc). It would help me if in the database results the relationship columns were sortable.

Thank you,

Relationship Drop-down Function

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I use the relationship function to create drop-down menus that connect different tables, so that one level of user can add data that other users choose from when they fill out a form.

For instance, one of my applications may have a “Department” Form and an “Activity”
Form that will allow the top user to add departments and activities — and the departments and activities that are added are then included in another form where users choose from a (relationship) drop-down the relevant department and activity they are reporting on.

The problem I have is that in each record the chosen department and activity then show up unnecessarily as links to other details. Is there some way I can disable the link and just keep the static data?

Drop-down menu look-up

Publication date: August 16, 2018

I have been able to connect drop-down items on one form to data submitted from another form, but I cannot figure out how to position the drop-down.

It is created by defining a relationship and the default position seems to be the bottom of the form.

Any help here?

Publication date: August 16, 2018

The MAIN reason that I chose to use an online database was to be able to JOIN tables, in order to significantly reduce the redundancy of the legacy spreadsheet files.

I’m still having issues with joining tables in MTH for a 1-to-many relationship, and, I need your help for this, before I schedule a class for several others who need to learn how to use MTH.

I have tables that I want to JOIN, as follows (please help me do so ASAP):

1 Contact HAS ONE (or none) Tutoring Driver

1 Tutoring Driver HAS MANY Contacts

1 Contact HAS ONE (or none) Non-LCMS-Church

1 Non-LCMS-Church HAS MANY Contacts

1 Contact HAS MANY (or none, or one) Phone No.

1 Phone No. HAS MANY (or one) Contacts

1 Contact HAS MANY (or one) Languages

1 Language HAS MANY Contacts

Also, it’s important that any of these reference tables (Tutoring Driver, Non-LCMS-Church, Phone No., Language) may have mutliple fields that need to be shown, e.g., the Language Name & the “Native” Indicator, and the Phone No, & Phone Type. I need to add more tables that need to be joined with a 1-to-many and many-to-many relationship.

Also, when I export the “ContactInfo” Records, IF the “Contact to Phone” or the “Contact to Language” relationships were actaully a 1-to-many type, then how could this data be exported to 1 spreadsheet, e.g., a Contact with multiple Languages or Phones?

Add option to dropdown list

Publication date: August 17, 2018

There was at one time the ability to have an “Add” link below a relationship drop-down that opened the form the drop-down pulled from and allowed the adding of another option to the drop-down. Have I completely forgotten how to add that option or is it no longer available?

Add unique submission feature to relationship look-up field --

Publication date: August 17, 2018

The simple checkbox adds unique data rows to the submission table/spreadsheet for each checkbox item selected. Adding this capability to the relationship checkbox would be a powerful addition to MTH as it allows much more precise sorting and filtering of MTH records.

Multi-input with auto-completion relationship field

Publication date: August 17, 2018

Please, add a fully functioning multi-select lookup (relationship) dropdown field.

The auto-completion works (if the user already knows all of the available pre-filled entries) but doesn’t adequately replace a relationship drop-down that supports multi-select
(control/click is the standard multi-select functionality) from a drop-down list.

Enforce Entry in Relationship Fields

Publication date: August 17, 2018

I note in forms, where I have a relationship entry the choices I have are to default to the first item on the relationship list or to leave it blank in which case the user can ignore the drop down box entirely.

Is there a way to force the user to select a value from the drop down box and not leave it blank? I can’t see any way to do this in field rules or in the rules?

Relational databases for different cases

Publication date: August 17, 2018

It would be great to have pre-defined templates with relational databases for different cases.

Publication date: August 20, 2018

It would be very useful to be able to add a button to a form for more information.

For example imagine a parcel of land. This parcel of land may be owned by 3 persons. It would be nice to include a button to take you to the record of land tax paid on this land or similar that is not directly relational data but is related.

Copy Field Content to Another Form

Publication date: August 20, 2018

I have a form:

In this form I list the required tasks for the site in question.

I then have a similar form

Where the user records what tasks they have completed.

It would make life easier if the user could select the task list from the first form and copy it to the second form.

Hierarchical pick-lists

Publication date: August 20, 2018

Consider a simple use case: We want Sector – > Industry. First question is how to setup tables:

1. A single table with two fields, and for every industry row we list the associated (parent) sector?

2. Two single-column tables, Sector and Industry, with Sector an N:1 connection to Industry?

Given the data, here are standard implementations we would like to see:

A. You select Sector from a pick-list, and then the Industry pick-list is populated with values in that Sector.

B. You get a single tree/hierarchical pick-list where you can expand/collapse a sector. Advantage here is you can multi-select industries and — if implementation is really good — industries and sectors.

(One key feature of a hierarchical pick list is the ability to multi-select. So, for example, if I multi-select two Sectors I want to then see (and potentially be able to select from) all Industries in both Sectors. It’s elegant if done in a tree control; acceptable if done in adjacent multi-select controls.)

Relational database request

Publication date: August 20, 2018

When a relational database is created and then linked to it’s form the drop down field generated does not have an option to select a default, this will lead to problems with data entry as it is inevitable that a user will forget to make a selection and then all field rules and image fields that are brought into the database are null and void. I can see no way around this issue other than MTH to allow an optional default selection for the SELECT drop down that is created.

Default Setting for Relationships

Publication date: August 20, 2018

Do you have plans to provide a default setting for the RELATIONSHIPS drop down field that MTH inserts into a form that uses the module? While the relational program has immense potential it is difficult to predict the data entry results of any formula that uses a relational field if the default value is null. If the relational drop down had same control options of a standard drop down field I am sure this would suffice and greatly enhance the attraction of the feature.

Sub Forms

Publication date: December 23, 2018

A sub-form which is automatically related to the main form on a one to many relationship would be a great step forward.

Add New Record link

Publication date: August 20, 2018

Is it possible to add an option to have “Add New Record” link on top of the Editable Database table, next to Pagination for example, or before it. Clicking on it would show Add New Record form below the table OR in the same Window as the Whole New page.

The above would eliminate the need to always have both Database and Form links at hand.

Will be extremely handy !

Thank you

Ref. Table Drop-downs on Records Page - Show "Not Linked"

Publication date: August 20, 2018

On the “Records” page, there may be drop-downs for a linked Reference table. Currently, if the User would like to know which of the Records in the “main” table are not linked to this Reference table, there is no method for this. Please add some indicator to this to allow the User to request this info.

Reference number and automated emails

Publication date: August 20, 2018

Just to start of I want to say I love your site.

Its absolutely amazing and simple to use very helpful.

Wanting to do a couple of things and was wondering if they are currently possible.

We are running a software support site and we want users to log there problems so we can aid them.
Now this is easily achieved thanks to you.

However I want to add to this and I don’t know if its possible.

What I want is a ticket system where each time something is submitted a number is generated for the user.

This is so that they can come back with a reference number.

Another thing I want to do is send an automated email once the form is submitted.

So if a users submits a form an email will be sent to them not me saying ‘thank you xyz’.

Are these to things possible?
Basically I’m trying to set up a ticket help system.

Blank records

Publication date: February 19, 2019

Thank you of the QuintaDB account enabling to make a new database. I have started with a simple three forms that have relationship links.

I am entering data into the ‘apartment’ form. Each record is a brief description of the apartment in terms of size, bedroom number, aspect, bathrooms etc. What I am finding is as I enter them, there are blank records also created. I have tried ‘editing’ the blank records (ie adding in apartment data) but there are so many of them!

I assume this is some setting that I need to alter, so please advise how I can prevent new blank records.

Thank you.
