Staying well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water can help flush bacteria from the urinary tract. The patient should avoid alcohol, caffeine, and spicy or acidic foods that may irritate the bladder. Proper hygiene, such as urinating after sexual activity and wiping front to back, can help prevent reinfection. Monitoring for symptoms such as fever, worsening pain, blood in the urine, or difficulty urinating is important, and medical attention Should be sought if these occur.
