Shamshad Kennel - Sanford-Orlando; Track vet Bruce Olson complained to Racing Director Scott Merkel about the overwhelming ammonia stench in the kennel which he observed when in the kennel to inoculate some of the dogs; Merkel and Associate Judge Steven Smith inspected the kennel and found the floors under the crates to be unsanitary and the feces buckets in the turn out pens were full and appeared to not have been emptied in a few days; John Carroca had been the trainer but was dismissed from the track as a result of these kennel conditions and other issues which are not outlined in this investigative report; when DBPR investigators went to Sanford-Orlando to inspect the track, they found the new trainer of record (who happens to be Carroca's grandfather) Galui thoroughly cleaning the kennel with his wife (who is also a trainer) and another kennel helper; based on this, no action was taken against Galui and the case was closed |
