DESCRIPTION/NOTES |
An anonymous phone call was placed to the DBPR stating that a greyhound died as a result of wounds inflicted during a dog fight and Grant's failure to seek proper medical treatment for the dog following the fight; the investigator visited Grant at SOKC and spoke with Grant who told the investigator that he did take the dog to the track vet but the dog simply dropped dead the following day during morning turn-out (he could not remember the name of the dog nor the date the incident occurred); the investigator spoke with the track vet (Bruce Olson) who looked through his records and found that the greyhound "C L Sand Dollar" was brought to him on 11/16/09 to be treated for injuries received during a dog fight on 11/15/09; the vet told the investigator that the greyhound had numerous puncture wounds on its hind quarters and a laceration on the right side of its neck; the puncture wounds were cleaned and the laceration was sutured; the vet further added that he did not necropsy the dog so there is no way to know what the exact cause of death may have been; he did mention that it is possible that a piece of solidified blood broke loose and traveled through the body causing a pulmonary embolism; given the lack of evidence in this case that Grant's actions contributed to the death of "C L Sand Dollar", the case was closed |
